Our 2024 Raffle Quilt:

The quilt that will be raffled at the 2024 Bennington Quiltfest has been given to our Quiltfest Chair, Lisa B. for machine quilting.  The drawing for the quilt will occur at the end of the 2024 Bennington Quiltfest. It is king size (104.5” by 104.5”)in blues with white. This photo is a sneak preview of the top, taken before quilting.

Seventeen Quiet Valley Guild members made one or more blocks for this quilt. Cheryl K. selected the Blue Ridge Beauty pattern by Brenda Plaster and oversaw the completion of the quilt top.  The top consists of 13, 15-inch Handy Andy quilt blocks, 12, 15-inch Broken Dishes blocks, with 3-inch sashing/corner stones and a chunky 5.5-inch border. Linda T. and the guild’s hand quilting group cut and sorted the fabric pieces for distribution to the members. Individual blocks were pieced by Pat L., Charlene A., Abbie D., Theresa L., Cheryl K., Elyssa M., JoAnn T., Linda T., Teresa M., Lisa B., Mary S., Mary D., Cindy P., Lori M., Mary H., Laura B., and Melinda B..

2023 Raffle Quilt: “Stardust”

The quilt is the Stardust pattern by Daniela Stout, and is made with May Morris (daughter of William Morris) Studio fabrics by Moda that are from the Victoria and Albert Museum archives. The quilt  measures 81” by 81”.

    The guild’s hand quilting group cut the fabric, distributed blocks to members for sewing, assembled, and hand quilted this stunning quilt. The quilt was started in 2021 during Covid and hand quilted on Tuesday afternoons in a frame over a six-month period in a North Bennington home during 2022. It is estimated that there are 160 hours of hand quilting in this quilt.

Twenty-eight Quiet Valley Guild Members participated in the creation of this quilt.

2022 Raffle Quilt: “Dancing Pinwheels”

This quilt was completed by the hand quilting group. It is 85” by 105” and made entirely of batiks. Mary K. selected the pattern ‘Dancing Pinwheels’ by Wendy Sheppard that appeared in Quiltmaker #185 January/February ’19. Chickie G. expanded the pattern and members of the hand quilting group donated batik scraps for the 32 large pinwheel blocks. The cornerstones, binding and back are a navy batik and the background is a cream tone on tone. Individual blocks were pieced by  Melinda B., Grace S., Nancy H., Marya B., Pat L., Charlene A., A., Alana A., Theresa L, Peg O., Donna S., Lori M., Cindy P., Linda G., Mary K., Lynn W., Nelle K., Chickie G. Gail O., Cheryl K., Elyssa M. and Carolyn ..  Mary K. pieced the cornerstones. 

The hand quilting group  quilted this stunning quilt. The group is comprised of Mary K., Gail O., Chickie G., Carolyn R., Pat L., Cheryl K., Donna S., Elyssa M.and most recently JoAnn T.. The quilt was started in 2019 and hand quilted on Tuesday afternoons in a frame at Mary K.’s home until Covid-19 put an end to our sessions in 2020.  Elyssa and JoAnn passed the quilt back and forth in the fall of 2020 until the hand quilting was completed. It is estimated that there are 300 hours of hand quilting in this quilt.

2019 Raffle Quilt: “Hart of Gold”

This 2019 raffle quilt is a queen sized bed quilt in the Turning Twenty  pattern by Tricia Cribbs.  It was created by an exciting variety of black and gold fabrics – constructed by Sharon Shorey long time member of our guild and then long arm quilted by Bruce Carnevale of Karen’s Quilting Corner, Wiliamstown, MA

2018 Raffle Quilt : “Dashing through the Garden” 

The 2018 Raffle Quilt is a queen sized bed that features bold Kaffe Fasset flower prints and combines them with a tradtional Churn Dash to make a stunning quilt, both modern and traditional. It is created in pleasing shades of blue and purple hues. 

The Tuesday hand quilting group picked out all the fabrics and cut them up. The blocks were distributed in zip lock bags for the guild members to quilt a block and then collected. The Hand Quilting group then did all the assembly by hand and hand quilted the layers for this incredibly beautiful finished quilt.
